Kristjan ‘Tan’ Gillies (b.1984) lives and works between London and his motherland Iceland. He is a multi-disciplinary artist, whose work encompasses text, film, photography and painting. His practice stems from an exploration of inner conflict, trauma and addiction through the prism of his mental health struggles and journey of sobriety. His experience with addiction, pain and chaos cement his position at the dichotomy between strength and tragedy with a raw vulnerability.

He self-published a visual memoir of his journey so far entitled ‘Cold Bones Part 1’ in March 2020 selling out in a day, with all proceeds going to Crossroads Women Centre in North London, a domestic violence shelter founded by his late friend Jan Francis’s mother which is a cause close to his heart.

With a revised edition released in June 2021 partnering with Rough Trade.

July 2021 saw the release of his first short film ‘Trauma Hurts’ partnering with London picture house Everyman.

December 2021 will see his first solo visual art show in Soho London.
